Liverpool skyline and docks on a sunny day

Spotlight on: Liverpool

Looking for a Liverpool venue for a meeting or event? We’ve included our selection in this blog, alongside all the great reasons event planners are drawn to the city on the Mersey.

As 2008’s European Capital of Culture, Liverpool works hard to capitalise on its creative economy. In 2015, it was designated a UNESCO Music City. The recognition supports the standard view that Liverpool and music are synonymous (although a fifth of Britons don’t know where the Beatles are from – eeeek!)

It’s not just The Beatles, however—Cilla Black, Eurovision’s 1993 second-place star—Sonia, Atomic Kitten, Echo & The Bunnymen, Frankie Goes To Hollywood, Gerry and the Pacemakers, Orchestral Manoeuvres in The Dark, Space, The Lightning Seeds—they all hail from Liverpool or Merseyside.

Steve Rotheram, Mayor of the Liverpool City Region, said:

“It’s safe to say that Liverpool wouldn’t be Liverpool without music – and music wouldn’t be music without Liverpool.”

Innovative brands

Liverpool boasts an impressive history of globally recognisable brands, too. The city has been a breeding ground for success, from iconic sportswear giant Adidas to the innovative digital retail firm Shop Direct.

So, if you’re looking for a location that inspires ideas and change, Liverpool is host to that entrepreneurial spirit!

Travel and transport

It certainly has the infrastructure to support events—last year’s Eurovision Song Contest proved it on the world stage. Along with impressive travel and public transport links, Liverpool’s bicycle hire scheme is also available in the compact, pedestrian-friendly city centre.

Perhaps that’s why Visit Liverpool says the city “prides itself on its accessibility, making travel around the area easy for all.”

Sustainable credentials

Liverpool is making waves in sustainability! It recently unveiled plans to build the world’s largest tidal power project. IF it’s built, Mersey Tidal Power would become the largest tidal range scheme in the world, powering over one million homes for more than 120 years.

With renewable energy projects and green spaces like the iconic Sefton Park, the city is committed to preserving its natural heritage for future generations. So, if you need a location that aligns with your event sustainability efforts, Liverpool could be your spot on the map.

STEM is systemic

When it comes to science and engineering, Liverpool has long been a centre for innovation, with pioneering research conducted in fields ranging from medicine to physics. The city is home to world-class institutions such as the University of Liverpool and Liverpool John Moores University, which have significantly contributed to scientific knowledge and technological advancement. And, did you know Professor and Chair of Tropical Medicine of the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (1902 to 1912) – Sir Ronald Ross – received the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for his discovery of the transmission of malaria?

The city’s expertise in engineering extends to its maritime industry, where innovations in shipbuilding and navigation have helped shape the modern world. Liverpool City Region has an enviable reputation in tech.

In fact, some of the most advanced computing, data and AI technologies are at the National Centre for Digital Innovation (Hartree Centre), Sci-Tech Daresbury. With a critical mass of expertise and partners, including IBM Research, Atos, and Intel, the centre’s experts work with the industry and research community to accelerate the adoption of high-performance technologies.

Liverpool venue selection

Our view at Bien Venue is that all successful meetings and events start with the venue – that’s why it’s in our name. Liverpool offers a stand-out example of this. If you read any of the reasons Liverpool was successful in its bid for 2023’s Eurovision, you will see that The Liverpool Arena’s facilities and space to accommodate thousands of visiting delegations, crew, fans, and journalists all helped secure the win.

The city has many meeting and event venues and hotels for meetings and events of all types and sizes. Here’s a selection of what’s on offer:
