We have all heard of cleansing our body by eating healthier, avoiding alcohol and smoking for a period of time but have we ever considering going on a mobile phone detox or social media cleanse?
After speaking with the team at Bien Venue we all agreed that it’s easy for our phones to consume our everyday life. As event managers the more events that we attend the more common it has become to see delegates clutching their phones like their lives depended on it. Or at social events such as concerts it can be hard to see the performer for a sea of phones waving in the air. It’s about time we all admitted we’re too addicted to our mobile phones. From non-stop selfie-taking to endless scrolling through Twitter and Instagram, it’s easy to forget to put the tech down.
Welcome to the 21st century we hear you say, but did you know that the Royal Public Health Society believe that if we logged off from social media and avoided phone time in the evening it would improve sleep, relationships and wellbeing.
Here’s some handy tips on how you can get involved in “Scroll free September” from The Royal Public Health Society;
- Take a break from social media at social events by talking to friends, listening to music and eating food without having to feel the need to post it.
- Take a break from social media after 6pm
- Improve your productivity by avoiding social media usage at work
Our goal is to achieve maximum engagement at our events, but how do we do that when we are encouraging our delegates to upload pictures or tag themselves in to the event or even create personalised event apps for delegates to navigate themselves around the venue? On one hand we want to be tech savvy and on the other we demand our delegates full concentration. There must be a balance and getting it right certainly isn’t easy in this day and age.
Members of the Bien Venue team have decided to give “Scroll free September” a go. We believe that by going cold turkey for a month will have a positive effect on sleep and real work relationships. So why not give it a go. We would love to hear how you get on!
