Ever wondered who creates the magic at BV? Wonder no more! Our new ‘Bright Sparks’ series will give you all the insider information on our team and why we love what we do. This month, we’d like to introduce you to our dedicated Director of Client Services, Mark Dixon.
Meet Mark Dixon
How long have you worked in the industry, Mark?
About 20 years now, between hotels, football clubs and agencies.
Tell us a bit about your role at BV.
I’m BV’s Director of Client Services. Day-to-day, I oversee the running of the team that manages our clients while coaching and mentoring the individuals on the team.
As a member of the senior management team, I get to experience a lot of variety in my role, such as supplier liaison and supporting with onboarding of new clients.
It sounds like you have experience across a range of business areas. What would you say are your specialities?
Event management, particularly large events and event logistics, alongside account management.
Tell us a bit about you, your hobbies.
I’m a big football fan (Swindon Town supporter), and I enjoy cooking, walking, and travelling. I think a love of travel is often something you’ll find in event professionals.
And if you had to pick a favourite event to have worked on, what would it be?
A Company Away Day in 2021. This client’s event briefs are always exciting – they appreciate creativity and original, inventive solutions. It’s the perfect opportunity for some imaginative thinking.
So you’ve been in the business for 20 years; take us back to the first event you worked on:
It was New Year’s Eve at a hotel I was working in. It was the first themed event we ran at the venue, and I got to run the event onsite alongside planning it.
That was my first taste of the rush you can get from working in our industry – you see the payoff of your hard work when you watch people immersed in an event you’ve created.
Okay, so this question could be a tough one. What’s your favourite WildCard venue to propose to clients, and why:
Hhhmmm. I don’t think I can choose a single one – it would always depend on the event brief. But Port Lympne or Hurlingham are certainly up there. They both offer a variety of spaces and lots of wow.
Now more about what you like outside of work…
Favourite holiday destination?
Gran Canaria!
And your dream holiday?
I’d love to return to New Zealand and tour the vineyards.
It sounds like you’ve been to New Zealand before. Is it the best place you’ve been to in the world?
Yes, Blenheim – I stayed on a vineyard! It was incredible!
What is your favourite hotel you’ve ever stayed in – in the UK?
Either glamping at Port Lympne or The Trafalgar in London. Or the Stock Exchange in Manchester. Arrggg, we have so many superb hotels in the UK!
Go to dish to cook:
Chicken and chorizo paella. Yum!
